With the borders around the country failing to open in time for a reduced 2021 Championship, attention has now turned to the 2022 season.

Category manager Ian Richards has confirmed the 2022 Calendar is close to completion with details to be announced soon. “We are just finalising the last few pieces of the puzzle and will announce our calendar soon, we are hoping to increase the number of rounds given the lack of recent running.” Richards said.

After a start to this year’s Championship in Sydney in March, teams have been frustrated by constant border closures resulting in round after round being cancelled. “It has certainly been a frustrating couple of years! We all just want to get the show back on the road.” Richards added.

Many of the drivers have stayed sharp this year attending various local state meetings or test days, whilst some teams have spent the time maintaining their cars, upgrading components or restoring to former colour schemes.

The category has also taken the downtime to gather feedback from car owners and stakeholders for the 2022 season. “We’ve received the feedback from our stakeholders and will be taking every comment onboard as we continue planning for 2022, there are some exciting things ahead for the category.” Richards said.
