Organisers of the Australian Formula 3 Championship in conjunction the AMRS are eyeing a July start to the 2020 Championship.
“Thanks to the rapid decline in COVID-19 cases Australia-wide, it would seem there is a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel where we are in a position to start planning for a resumption of the 2020 AMRS season, (pending Government advice over the coming weeks)” AMRS Series Manager Matt Baragwanath said

“We are committed to the AMRS season in 2020 and to that end are hoping for the season to re-commence in July” though no calendar is currently in place.

The season restart is dependent on two critical factors:
1) That the continually evolving government advice is favourable with travel restrictions being lifted and;
2. The AMRS having the commitment from other categories (and subsequent entrants) so that the events are commercially viable.

Baragwanath added “We are also conscious that at some rounds we MAY not be inviting spectators to attend and also MAY need to restrict the amount of personnel we have at a venue (ie; team members/staff/officials etc) again, based on Government advice.”

Australian Formula 3 Category Manager Ian Richards is keen for a season start. “We would be hopeful of still getting in 4 or 5 rounds at this stage even if we have to run into December, there have certainly been many various Championships with less rounds in the past”.

The Formula 3 Championship coincidentally was supposed to be at The Bend this weekend for round 2 of the Championship, Richards is still hopeful of having a round at Australia’s newest first-class track this year. “We were supposed to be at The Bend this week, we are still confident of racing on The Bend in 2020 - maybe even sooner rather than later”. Richards added.

“Our drivers are keen to get racing and have been in regular contact for updates whilst keeping their skills current on their sims, we have even had a couple of new drivers commit to the category for 2020 as soon as we get the green light.” Richards added.

The AMRS are liaising with tracks currently negotiating a revised calendar and hope to make an official announcement soon, pending Government announcements.
