Young Taiwanese driver Ray-Yu Wang has had his first taste of Australian Formula 3 testing with Jones Motorsport at Morgan Park Raceway last week.

20 year old Wang, who acquired the driver coaching services of well-known racer and former Australian Formula 3 Champion James Winslow, is a seasoned Karter who also competed in the final round of the 2019 Clubman Series driving a West-16C at the famous Suzuka circuit in Japan.

The test gave Wang an opportunity to drive the Jones Motorsport Dallara F311 in both damp and dry conditions, and even gave Wang a close encounter with the local wildlife after a few Kangaroos crossed the track in front of his Dallara during one of the sessions. “I really enjoyed driving the Formula 3 car, it was a big difference, and the aerodynamics is huge - lots of downforce!” Wang said.

Jones Motorsport Team Owner Peter Jones was very impressed with Wang’s first outing. “Ray-Yu shows true talent and progressed each session he went on track. He applied a mature approach to his driving that gained the most advantage from his engineer, Bruce Jenkins, and driver coach, James Winslow. He would certainly be an exciting addition to this year’s championship should he decide to join the field” Jones said.

Wang is hoping to be on the grid for round 1 of the Championship. “We are still planning for it but will make an announcement soon.” Wang said.

The season opener is at Morgan Park Raceway on April 3rd-5th.
