2018 Australian Formula 3 Champion Harri Jones has confirmed a 2-year deal that will see him race in the Payce Porsche Carrera Cup Australia in 2020 and 2021. The recently crowned Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge winner has already had a taste of the category competing in the final round at the Gold Coast in 2019.

“We did the final round of the series on the Gold Coast a couple of weeks ago, the walls at the Gold Coast are so close - we definitely dove in the deep end with that one.”

Jones was involved in a season long battle with Gilmour Racing’s Cameron Shields for the 2018 Australian Formula 3 title, prevailing in the final round at the Bend Motorsport Park. Category manager Ian Richards paid testimony to Jones talent and the skills he developed in his time in Formula 3.

“He is certainly consistently very quick” Richards said of Harri, “It a testimony to how well the category can help develop drivers to progress to the top of their motorsport career goals, both Harri and Cameron chose two different paths and were both very competitive. Harri will certainly be a star of the future.” Richards said.

Shields spent time in the United States racing in the development categories to the Indycar series where he took one race victory and two podiums. Jones is the latest of a long list of drivers to progress through Australian Formula 3 to attempt to forge a career in motorsport.

“There’s such a clear pathway for young drivers like myself to follow and Porsche are providing so many opportunities to chase their dreams to ultimately make a career out of this sport, Hopefully I can build the relationship with Porsche to make this happen.” Jones said.
