Magro's Record Breaking Year

It would be a bit of an understatement to say that John Magro had a good year in 2019, after he dominated the Australian Formula 3 Championship with six round wins from six.

The fastest Mango Farmer on the planet, Magro not only won every round, but he set a new consecutive race victories record with 18 race wins from as many starts.

“To win the Australian Formula 3 Championship is a massive honour, especially considering the calibre of drivers who have won it over the years,” said Magro. “Formula 3 is one of the toughest and fastest categories in the country, so to be able to come away with the Australian Formula 3 Championship the way I did was something that makes this even more special.”

In what was an outstanding year, Magro’s Australian Championship dominance included setting new outright lap records at Winton Motor Raceway – Vic, The Bend Motorsport Park – SA, and Wakefield Park Raceway – NSW.

“The lap records were something I was really trying hard to chase at every round,” he said. “My team worked on setup every session and when the track conditions were right, I went for it. To go through the year undefeated is a huge achievement, I kept my head down and had to take each race as it came.”

Magro credited a lot of his 2019 Australian Championship success to his Adelaide-based team, R-Tek Motorsport.

“I can’t thank everyone from the R-Tek Motorsport team enough for all of their support and hard work throughout the year, they provided me with a great car every time I hit the track,” he praised. “The R-Tek Motorsport team are a very solid operation and they were definitely one of the keys to my Australian Championship success.”

Magro is leaving his options open for 2020 but hasn’t ruled out a return to defend his title and attempt to extend his undefeated record breaking winning streak.

“There are a few options on the cards for next year, but I’m not in a position to confirm anything just yet,” admitted Magro, who has previously spent time not only in Formula 3 in past years, but also selected appearances in various other categories such as GT Championship and Carrera Cup.

Australian Formula 3 category manager Ian Richards had nothing but praise for the Queenslander saying, “John has been maticulous and clinical in his approach this year, his performances both off and on-track, winning the Championship, breaking outright lap records would surely have made him one of the most deserving winners of the now parked Gold Star award.”

Magro would also like to thank Magro Farming Co, Agtrack, Nu-Edge Solutions, MC Group, Smith Brothers Media, and his family and friends for all their support throughout his successful and record breaking 2019 Australian Formula 3 Championship.
