Round 2: Magro takes Race 1 Victory

R-Tek Motorsport driver John Magro has taken the race 1 victory at Morgan Park Raceway for Round 2 of the Australian Formula 3 Championship.

Magro had to battle McDonalds Gilmour Racing's Richard Peasey pressuring his fellow Queenslander into a mistake on lap 8 of the 10 Lap race, Peasey's team-mate Josh Buchan crossed the line close behind in 3rd. Wilson Team Racing's Shane Wilson had a spin on some oil on lap 1 sending Rielly Brook wide of track, the Brook Motorsport driver later retired with fuel pressure issues whilst Wilson recovered to finish 8th and 4th in class.

Hammersley Ruff Racing's Gerrit Ruff got the jump on R-Tek Motorsport's Roman Krumins and held on to take the National Class win. Krumins' team-mate Andrew Roberts recovered from a bad start to pass 99 Motorsport's Ryan Astley with the pair finishing 6th and 7th respectively for 3rd and 4th in class.

Earlier Magro took his second All Properties Group Pole Award in a close qualifying session, Magro pipped the two McDonalds Gilmour Racing duo of Richard Peasey and Josh Buchan with less the a quarter of a second covering the trio. Less than a second covered the entire National Class with Ruff taking the class pole.
