Queensland mango farmer John Magro has got his year off to the perfect start winning all 3 races with fastest laps at round 1 of the Australian Formula 3 Championship running with the Australian Motor Racing Series. The R-Tek Motorsport driver also took the point for the first All Properties Group pole position award of the year with a 1:13.7655 which was well under the current outright race lap record. Magro went on to claim the outright race lap record in race 2 lowering Christopher Anthonyís 2016 time to a 1:14.3058

In race 1 Magro didnít make the best start allowing the two McDonalds Gilmour cars of Josh Buchan and Richard Peasey to get the jump, Magro recovered taking the lead back on lap 4 which he held till the flag with Buchan crossing the line 10 seconds adrift followed by Peasey.

It was a great day for R-Tek Motorsport with Roman Krumin who had taken the National Class pole position crossing the line 4th taking the National Class win.

Race 2 saw Magro getting the jump on the Gilmour drivers easing away to another comfortable win. Peasey won the Gilmour battle taking 2nd, Buchan looked set for 3rd before running out of fuel on the last lap.

Ruff Racingís Gerrit Ruff took the National Class win after Krumins struck electrical trouble. Further back R-Tek Motorsportís Andrew Roberts and 99 Motorsportís Ryan Astley had a coming together under double waved yellows for the stranded car of Shane Wilson, the Wilson Team Racing driver had spun and was being recovered by marshalls. Astley was later fined and given a 10 second penalty for the incident.

The 18 lap finale was a race of attrition, Brook Motorsportís Rielly Brook pulled off before the start with his recurring misfire issue, Wilson then retired on lap 1 after hitting debris in the opening corners.
Magro pulled away from the start again to take a comfortable race and round win ahead of Buchan and Peasey with Peasey taking 2nd for the round courtesy of Buchanís race 2 retirement.

Ruff took out race 3 and the National class round after Kruminsí electrical gremlins returned retiring on lap 15, Astley was the final retirement beaching his car with two laps to go. Roberts taking 2nd for the round.

It was Magroís first Formula 3 win in a long time. ďIím very happy to get the round win, itís obviously the perfect start to the season. The car was hooked up and on rails all weekend.Ē

Round 2 of the Championship is at Morgan Park on April 5-7.
