Current Australian Formula 3 Premier Series Champion Calan Williams has impressed European teams at a 2-day test at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona. The young Western Australian drove a current-specification Dallara F312 with the Fortec Motorsport team whom he met during a mid season trip to Europe.

Along with Williams, Fortec Motorsport were testing American driver Yves Baltas and experience regulare Petru Florescu, as well as a number of other EuroFormula Open and FIA European Formula 3 teams. On day 1 Williams completed 91 laps lapping within half a second of Florescu, who completed a full Euroformula F3 season this year. Day 2 saw Williams match Florescu as the pair completed a qualifying simulation before Williams ran an impressive race simulation to round out the day.

Fortec team manager Mick Kouros was full of praise for the Australian driver. We were very pleased with the progress he made over the two days, said Kouros. He matched our very fast, competitive driver Petru Florescu, which did surprise the team.
To have the opportunity to drive on a circuit that Ive grown up watching Grands Prix at is just incredible, said Williams.

Williams was happy with how the test went. Its such a different experience over there, the competition is extremely intense and the circuit was a step up from any we have in Australia in terms of facilities and g-forces.

Williams is still working hard on a deal that would place him in a seat in Europe next year.
