Former Gilmour Racing Formula 3 star Ben Gersekowski is further proof of the quality of the Australian Formula 3 Series and the ongoing role it has in developing raw young talent into ‘race ready’ drivers on the world stage.

From setting the Formula 3 lap record at Mount Panorama in 2014 following a trio of outstanding seasons in Australia’s premiere open-wheeler category, Gersekowski has gone from strength to strength as a genuine Australian international driver.

Last year saw the young Queenslander successfully compete in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe Championship with the German based Leipert Motorsport team and in 2017 he will further expand his international racing career by competing in the Asian Lamborghini Series.

‘There are six rounds in Asia with two races per round and it will culminate with the last race of the season at Imola in Italy where the best drivers around the world go head to head’, says Gersekowski.

Formula 3 was a vital part in the progression of Gersekowski and he pays tribute to the Australian Series for providing him with the ‘bum in the seat’ time to develop his race craft and the technical aspects of driving so necessary to progress internationally in the sport.

‘In Formula 3 you have to learn where you are better than another driver to judge and execute a successful pass.
You race these (F3) cars properly and you have to understand things like the mechanical and aero grip. With mechanical grip you can slide the car to some extent, but you have to have confidence in the aero grip at high speed and the experience you gain in F3 gives you greater confidence and ability in GT cars.
Since racing overseas I have noticed that my brake traces are better than many and that is because of my time in Australian Formula 3’.

As for the future, Gersekowski intends continuing his professional race career internationally with Lamborghini and other GT Endurance commitments. He is yet another truly outstanding success story from Australian Formula 3 – the category that prepares drivers for the international stage.
