It might be a dead rubber in the title fight, but Tim Macrow still hasn't received the memo at the end of day 1 at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Macrow in the #88 AIE Alpine Motor Sports Dallara set the fastest time in both sessions he competed in. Macrow’s best time in Practice session 1 and 3 was 1:23.9, setting up the possibility of the F3 lap record being broken during the weekend.

Roland Legge’s (#8 #MackayPride Dallara/Mercedes) pace at Sydney Motorsport Park continued, scoring the fastest time in the mid-day session that Macrow sat out.

Combined times may not tell the story, with the order between the top 4 Premier class contenders varying throughout the day.

Cameron Shields (#73 McDonalds Gilmour Racing), was second fastest with a 1:24.8858 set in the cooler morning session, however by the afternoon, teammate and reigning Champion Jon Collins was back up to speed, faster than Shields, but still 1.1 seconds off Macrow’s ultimate time.

Nathan Kumar (#7 BlueChip Taxation Dallara) was the only National class contended in the 1:27 range, followed by Roman Krumins (#6 Cosmedic Medical Services Dallara), and Shane Wilson.

Wilson (#27 Wilson Team Racing, pictured) is debuting a new F307 specification Dallara this weekend, and steadily improved throughout the day with the car that had no track time before this weekend.

Ross McAlpine completed the field, while Alpine Motor Sports team manager Dennie Rumble earned the nickname “Slow Tim” from his #88 team after a short stint in Practice 2 in place of Macrow.

Qualifying for Australian Formula 3 is at 10:35am tomorrow, with Race 1 at 1:35pm.
